Positioning Wedge for Fecal Management System (FMS)
Prevents Leaks and Improves Waste Containment
Hospital FMSs are essential for patient care but often present challenges such as leaks and waste backflow. These leaks cause discomfort for patients, increasing the risk of skin breakdown and infections, and require extra cleaning time for healthcare staff. Standard positioning aids aren't designed to handle the specific needs of these systems, causing leaks due to improper gravity flow and creating a gap in care.
Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University have developed a Flow Positioning Wedge for use with FMSs to address this ongoing problem. The wedge features a non-stick channel to eliminate leaks, and protect a patient’s skin.
