Device for the Prevention of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection
The technology
Technology summary
This invention was designed for the prevention of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI). It includes both an antimicrobial coating and barrier to protect the urethra from fecal matter. Although there are solutions to produce barriers in male patients, there exists no device to protect female patients from contamination of fecal matter into the urethra. The flexibility of the attachment minimizes patient discomfort and is adaptable to different gages of existing catheters. The device fits snug into the urethra, therefore providing a barrier from fecal matter that reduces the risk of infection.
